OL Definition

The first time I heard of the acronym "OL" when my best friend gave me a document bag that's very popular with "OLs". I was like, "Huh?" And she explained, "Office Lady - OL!" I thought it was such a cute term that when I started this blog, the name just came to me. It was not till I read Rie's Cubicle Lifestyle that I realised there is more to the term!

According to the most common definition, the term "OL" was first used by the Japanese to mean an "office lady" - a female who work in an office environment performing mainly clerical / secretarial tasks (including serving tea!). She is usually style-conscious and could afford to enjoy a single's lifestyle, spending her salary on cosmetics, fashion etc. to maintain her good looks.

This term is now used for all ladies who work in an office, like me! So what do you think is the profile of a typical Singaporean "OL"? Share with me your thoughts by leaving me your comments! ;)
